Every few months we’ll be updating you on the progress made on the Texas Youth Permanency Study (TYPS) conducted by UT Austin, in partnership with Upbring and sponsored by The Reissa Foundation and The Simmons Foundation. This study is a 5-year longitudinal study following 500 foster youth who are 14 – 21 years old at time of recruitment. Participant recruitment occurs at child welfare courts across Texas.

In our Summer 2020 quarterly newsletter, we mentioned that we were busy interviewing youth to learn about how COVID-19 is affecting youth placements and their relationships with caregivers, peers, and birth families. We stayed in touch with our study participants through follow-up surveys and phone interviews throughout the summer. In our fall 2020 edition of the TYPS newsletter, we explore the lived experiences of aged-out youth and youth still in care, and the ways in which their living situations, school, social activities, and wellbeing have shifted.
